Funding Opportunity: SHGAPE Research Grant
The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) announces a grant of up to $1,500 to be awarded to a single recipient to support research on any topic concerning US history between 1865 and the 1920s. This grant was established in 2022 and will be awarded annually.
Eligibility is limited to advanced doctoral students, independent scholars, and contingent faculty who are members of SHGAPE. The recipient will be notified in December 2024 and the funds may be used any time between January 2025 and January 2026 for expenses related to furthering research in progress. SHGAPE endorses the American Historical Association’s capacious definition of research expenses.
The recipient will be selected on the basis of originality, historical significance, and feasibility of the applicant’s research plan. They will receive a ticket to the SHGAPE luncheon at the 2025 meeting of the Organization of American Historians, where the award will be presented. The recipient will contribute a piece about their research for SHGAPE’s Blog. The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2024.
